"Ayur" means "life, vital power"; "veda" means "knowledge". Translated from Sanskirt, ayurveda is "science of health or wellness". It reminds us that everything in life is connected. The art & science of ayurvedic practices seek to treat & integrate the body, mind & spirit using a comprehensive holistic approach. This practice emphasizes wellness through diet, herbal remedies, exercise, meditation, breathing & physical therapy, thus harmonizing life inside & outside of our bodies. It teaches that all matter is made up of the 5 Great Elements.

the 5 great elements

are ether, wind, fire, water & earth. Ayurvedic concepts are based on 3 Doshas or mind & body types. These mind & body types are Pitta, Kapha, & Vatta. Each of these types are characterized by a set of internal and external traits. There are numerous factors in life that can cause an imbalance in the skin such as stress, pollution, seasonal changes, etc. This is why it is vital that we are aware of our individual dosha & maintain equilibrium in every aspect of our lives.

YOU ARE WHAT YOU EAT!

How many times have you heard this? Do you believe it to be true?... Well, my friend, indeed it is true. In ayurveda, the skin is considered a manifestation of inner health. Our skin is our largest organ & what we apply on it is absorbed to a point far greater than we realize. So choosing skin care according to dosha is vital as it can be used as a tool for healthy & beautiful skin.
